Jacobs LevyThe two most important issues facing Westport today are (1) controlling a rising annual budget; and, (2) promoting an “age-in-place” community. Solutions include focusing on the positives, borrowing from other industries by adapting and re-inventing programs that reward employees for finding new and innovative ways for job performance, adopting a continuous improvement mindset, implementing a 2-year budget cycle; creating “age-in place” programs and policies by developing innovative housing options, promoting multi-generational connections, adopting transportation initiatives, growing community public safety programs, and creating new adaptive programs. |

FriedmanThe town’s crown jewel, Westport’s schools provide a lifelong benefit to our students and anchor the town’s status—and property values—as top tier. As a member of RTM, I’d view investing in the schools as critical: doing so enriches both our children’s lives and our own pocketbooks. Simultaneously, we must continually invest in improvements to our daily quality of life: maintaining and upgrading our recreational infrastructure; improving the flow of cars, bikes and pedestrians. Coordinating with both state & town officials is required. Improving our quality of life is a high priority, and solutions are within reach. |

KaplanIt’s become harder to get around Westport with traffic congestion around town. RTM district 3 borders one of the worst areas, near Merritt exit 42. Although these are partly state roads, Westport needs to take the lead on common sense solutions for roads we travel every day. Westport has invested in it’s excellent education system and our students are high achieving on and off the field, but they are stressed and less resilient than they need to be. We must spend our education dollars wisely while still investing in the health and well being of the majority of our students |

HoganI ask for the opportunity to continue serving District 3 to build upon the work I’ve done on the issues important to so many of you. The top two: maintaining our town’s excellent education system in the wake of budget cuts from Hartford and helping our town’s seniors age in place. Also critical, supporting continued Compo Beach improvements including reducing beach over crowding, adding sidewalks beyond the downtown area, and striving to keep property taxes low. We must continue to collaborate with the Boards of Finance, Education and Selectman’s office with a focus on creative cost-effective solutions. My committee work and RTM votes back up my position. |

IzzoThe two most important issues facing our town will be dealing with potential education funding cuts from Hartford and state mandates that effect our local zoning regulations like 8-30g. To combat problem number one is simple; continue as we have the last 4 years with the RTM, Board of Ed, and Board of Finance working together to keep our schools funded. Problem number two will require continued pressure by our town on the state to modify flawed laws that have allowed developers to bust up local zoning laws. Private-public partnership for moderate income housing without zone busting is the way to go. |
