WieserAs Chair of the RTM Finance Committee, I believe Westport's tax base must be a main issue of the RTM. However, while it is important to maintain our modest mill rate, as we have done over the past many years, we must also balance the education, recreational and infrastructure needs of the Town. Hamlin The overarching challenge is maintaining high-level of services (educational, public protection, Parks and Recreation, etc.), without raising taxes, in the shrinking state-budget. context. As lead petitioner of a competitive-procurement ordinance, I’ve been working on an outstanding solution: Our proposed ordinance requires all Town employees to eliminate price gouging in government contracts and will be in place so that future generations of RTMers will have the tools needed to analyze and enforce compliance. By enacting this ordinance and taking back taxpayer monies wasted on government contractors who price-gouge, we’ll find the monies to meet the needs for high-level Town services. |
