MoriartyWestport must continue to attract new families, despite the state’s problems and the longer New York commute. New families drive the housing market and support property values. Westport cannot control everything, but we can focus on our key assets: 1) our public schools, 2) amenities/ quality of life. With Connecticut’s budget crisis, our schools will be more dependent on the town in coming years. The RTM needs to support a budget that provides for the continued excellence and innovation of Westport schools. We must also maintain and improve beautiful Compo Beach/Longshore, and work with the state to address traffic safety. |

ReaTwo most important issues. Taxes & Traffic! The State of Connecticut’s fiscal crisis threatens our towns’ ability to continue to fund and maintain our quality of education and life in Westport. Potentially increasing our taxes by millions of dollars over and above what is required now on an annual basis, will be daunting. I will continue to use my voice and vote to insure our tax dollars are well spent and that we continue to provide for our schools and other vital services. I will support initiatives to improve roads & intersections to mitigate traffic issues. |

ArthursThe most important issue for Westport is attracting and keeping businesses and home owners in Westport. This is critical for maintaining our tax base and vitality. The key to accomplishing this is to have strong economic development and address issues that impact families moving to Westport such as traffic, strong schools and accessible housing. Our second most significant issue is maintaining our town strengths such as Compo Beach and the schools. We need to be more proactive in these areas |

Batteau Changing finances and demographics will drive important issues. Connecticut's crisis budget will likely shift millions of dollars in state costs to Westport, endangering our signature educational system, services, facilities, steady taxes, property values - and residents. To protect us, town bodies must develop additional tactics to impact state policy; with public input, reach consensus on priorities for managing finite resources and funding choices; engage businesses; and increase our grand list. Seniors comprise 37% of Westport's community. Sustaining this growing, diverse population requires planning now for innovative home options, health services, transit, and educational and recreational opportunities, and implementation. |
